An inexperienced scotch drinker might suspect they grabbed a bottle of something out of the medicine cabinet upon first sniffing and sipping a glass of 10-Year Laphroaig Scotch. Iodine was the first thing that came to my mind? Laphroaig is one of the world's best single malts, but takes some getting used to. Yes, it does have a bit of a medicinal taste at first, but with some experience, you will appreciate it's well rounded, extremely smoky, peaty flavor. Laproaig has one of the strongest noses of any scotch, accompanied with an extremely fruit-smoked finish that seems to last for days. It took me some time to appreciate it, but Laphroaig is one of my very favorite Single Malt Scotches. Buy Laphroaig

Lagavulin Whiskey
Lagavulin 16-Year Single Malt
The very first time I tried Lagavulin 16-Year it became favorite all time favorite single malt scotch. Let me explain, though, this was on a night when I had already tried a couple of less complex scotches, and so my taste buds had been prepared for the bold flavor. Like Laphroaig, it's medicinal flavor might not be one that is appreciated by first-time scotch drinkers. Lagavulin Whiskey has a very bold, peaty, smoked flavor that is reflective of it's dark color. What attracted me to this the most was its salty finish. Lagavulin fills your nose with a pleasant abundance of ripened cherries, bubble gum, with just a touch of iodine, then just enough salt to make you want to wet your lips with the next sip.But not so fast - the long-lasting finish is like smooth, silky butterscotch.
